Swoon Pillow Covers and Baptist Fans

This is a block orphaned from the Swoon quilt.  I also have another cut, ready to sew, so I thought I would turn them into oversized pillow covers.  This is the first one, and I quilted it with a Baptist fan pattern.  Love!

Swoon, A Friday Finish!

I first posted about Swoon in September 2011, and now it's finally done! Actually, it was so nearly done for a long time, but I couldn't decide on what to use for the binding. I finally decided to keep it simple and used a solid aqua.

It's no wonder this pattern, Swoon, is so beloved by so many.  The results are striking, and I love everything about this quilt.  The fabric is Heirloom by Joel Dewberry, which is still at the top of my list of awesome collections.

It was machine quilted using a pattern called "Pretty Plumes," by Judy Allen.  I wanted something organic and flowing.  This pattern did not disappoint and was a pleasure to quilt.

Sashing Swoon and More Sampler Blocks for WIP Wednesday

Remember these blocks?  Swoon using Heirloom -- yup, I'm finally getting around to sashing them.  It took me a while to get to this point, because I originally wanted to make a king-sized quilt using a 4 x 4 setting.  After the 10th block, when I accidentally singed a corner with the iron, I put the project away for a while.  I have now decided that the original 3 x 3 setting (finishing at 80" x 80") is just fine.  I can't wait to get this done and quilted -- I've got some ideas brewing.

I also finished another block for my Classic Sampler. This is one of my favorites, although I would do it a little differently if I had thought about it in the first place.

Swoon in Heirloom - The Beginnings

It's been a wonderful, busy summer with the boys so I can't really complain.  I just wish there were either more hours in the day, or that I slept less.  I might try working on the second one.  Hopefully with one boy back to school, and the other soon to be (next week), I will have more time for sewing and updating this blog.

In the meantime, I have been doing a little sewing.  I don't think I need to say much.  "Swoon" is everywhere, and I couldn't resist.  I was waiting for Ruby to come to my LQS, but Heirloom (purchased here) was calling to me.  For me, it's lived up to all the hype.  The blocks are HUGE.  Each block gets a little bit easier, a little more precise.  I love it.

I've also been doing a little knitting.  I just finished a cardi, which is in the blocking stage right now so I'll post later on this week.  Next up, another quick cardi using this:

The biggest ball of yarn ever.
